A photoresistor (or light-dependent resistor, LDR, or photo-conductive cell) is a light-controlled variable resistor. The resistance of a photoresistor decreases with increasing incident light intensity; in other words, it exhibits photoconductivity. A photoresistor can be applied in light-sensitive detector circuits, and light-activated and dark-activated switching circuits. The photo-resistor is a staple of electronics. If you need a way to sense the level of ambient light, then there is no easier way to do it without an LDR/photo-resistor.

Two Cadmium Sulphide PhotoConductive Cells with spectral responses similar to that of the human eye. Cell resistance falls with increasing light intensity. Applications of this product include smoke detection, automatic lighting control, batch counting, and burglar alarm systems.
